Clay in life, was a huge Gaviners fanboy with a secret crush on his BFF Apollo. Clay died before he could meet his rock idol, Klavier, and ask Apollo if he wanted to be more than just friends. Clay is of course shocked and upset (but also happy for his bff) to find that his rock idol and bff are now dating.
Clearly, the only way Klavier and Apollo can make it up to leaving Clay out, is to have Maya channel him so he can watch them bang.

Why does Phoenix always win his cases? How does he always manage to draw new info out of all his witnesses? Why is this dorky lawyer so likeable?
It's because he's a siren. There's something about his voice that just makes people want to listen to him, to like him. And yet, it's subtle enough that no one notices and would just pass it off as him being good with people.
And Phoenix knows all this. So he will always refuse when asked to sing, be it at birthdays, or karaokes, or whatever, insisting that he's awful at it. He doesn't want friendships/relationships forced upon others just because they are smitten with his voice. But he loves to sing. He needs to sing. It's in his blood. And, one day, someone catches him singing.
Doesn't have to be shippy. Can just be his friend, or anyone, catching him singing. Or maybe he has a really hard case to solve and someone is going to die if he doesn't solve it quickly so he uses his last resort that is his voice to get some crucial evidence out of someone, maybe cos there are psychelocks he can't break or the bad guy doesn't want to talk, and there goes his secret (at least to the few people present then).
If there are gonna be pairings, I prefer Edgeworth/Phoenix. Maybe poor Miles does get drawn in by Phoenix's enchanting voice when he accidentally catches Phoenix singing. And while Phoenix would love to be in a relationship with Miles, he can't bring himself to treat such a relationship as a proper genuine one because it seems fake and forced.
Or maybe whoever, if anyone, decides to pick this up can come up with something else. I don't mind (:

Phoenix has some psychic abilities similar to those of the women of the Fey family.
Do whatever you want with that, maybe that's why Mia became his mentor, maybe the Fey adopted him when he was young and trained him, maybe Phoenix is actually Phoenix Fey, maybe he's part of a family of medium who were murdered, maybe his power are rapidly growing and ppl are starting to notice, maybe that's why he always win his case ...
