Their friends, family, and acquaintances can't figure out why those two don't have any of their own. So one of them asks Simon, point blank.

Turns out he was forcibly sterilized in prison, and is unable to adopt because of his past.

AU after AA5, no AA6. And maybe even an AU to AA5, because Maya is already present. Phoenix gets kidnapped and taken hostage. But aside the message that it happened, even sending it to the news stations, the kidnappers don't give any information. They don't make any demands. They don't make any threats.

This lasts through several days - imagine that in a game, he gets kidnapped at the fourth's case beginning and he only gets free by the fifth's ending. He's off-screen during the entire kidnapping while everybody searches for him. They hear him on phone when he manages to nab a mobile, telling them he's fine though a bit lonely because his kidnappers only come see him twice a day. (Which for Phoenix is torture - he doesn't do well when he's alone with his thoughts.) They panic when the connection suddenly cuts off. But even when he's not mentioned does his presence permeate the story.

Different people team up - Trucy and Miles, Maya and Pearls, Apollo and Simon, Athena and Miles, the two younger lawyers and Miles, Simon and Maya, Athena and Simon, Apollo and Trucy-

Like, Miles comforts Trucy and Maya. Or somebody talks shit about Phoenix, prompting Pearls to go into their face for talking foolish things they don't know anything about, and Apollo cheers her on. There are also conversations with Maya and Miles who talk about their view on his actions and behavior before and during AA4 - not excusing what he did, just explaining what happened and what they noticed. Trucy says she wasn't a saint either. There's a sense of urgency with all of them because of the situation's uncertainty.
